The Well Balanced Farmer

We’re the husband-and-wife team behind The Well Balanced Farmer and Still Seeking Farm, a nutrient-dense vegetable farm in Gilmanton, New Hampshire.
For years, we’ve taken a thoughtful approach to growing food—testing our soil, learning what it needs, and making intentional changes rather than simply guessing.
When our own health began affecting our ability to continue farming, we realized it was time to bring that same thoughtful, test-based approach to supporting our bodies.
Were we giving our own bodies what they needed?
Earlier in 2026, Keith experienced a health crisis that changed what everyday life looked like for both of us. He could work on the farm for only about an hour before pain forced him back inside for the rest of the day. An inversion table helped a little, as did weekly chiropractic adjustments, but it still wasn’t enough.
Farming is physically demanding, and with Keith unable to work as he normally would, we began seriously considering whether we would have to close the farm.
Michelle knew she couldn’t manage all of it by herself and at the same time, she found herself staring at a cupboard filled with supplements and wondering: Are any of these actually working?
We were trying to support our health, but we had no real way of knowing whether our bodies were receiving what they needed.
HI, WE’RE KEITH AND MICHELLE!
Supporting Our Health So We Can Continue Doing What We Love
A Test-Based Approach Made Sense to Us
Then a friend reached out and introduced us to test-based nutrition.
The timing felt like an answer to prayer.
As farmers, the idea immediately connected with us. We had already learned that we couldn’t determine what our soil needed simply by looking at it. Testing gave us information that helped us make more intentional decisions.
Why should our approach to our own wellness be any different?
The BalanceTest gave us a way to look at our individual fatty acid profiles, including our omega-6 to omega-3 balance. Instead of continuing to add supplements and hope they were working, we could begin with personal information and make more informed choices.
From Uncertainty to Renewed Hope
We took the tests, learned from our results, and began making changes to support our personal wellness.
Our experience has been incredibly encouraging. By July 2026, Keith had progressed from working only about an hour at a time to working full days on the farm again without the same limitations he had experienced earlier in the year.
That progress meant more to us than simply feeling better. It gave us renewed hope that we could continue caring for our farm and doing the work we love.
Our experience is personal, and everyone’s health needs and results will be different. We don’t share our story as a guarantee or as medical advice. We share it because test-based nutrition gave us greater clarity and helped us become more intentional about how we support ourselves as farmers.

Supporting Ourselves as Farmers
The Well Balanced Farmer is where we share what we are personally doing to support our health and wellness while continuing the physically demanding work of farming.
Moving Beyond the Guesswork
We want to help others move away from simply guessing whether their supplements are working and toward a more informed, test-based approach.
